Between Bread and Bread Print E-mail

Between bread slice and bread slice... roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, baby leaf lettuce, crunchy bacon, sage stuffing, and a touch of mayonnaise. Those are the ingredients of the Holiday Turkey Sandwich that made Liza, from Hampshire, into a competition winner. Liza used cranberry white loaf to sandwich all those goodies.

Meet Liza as she speaks about her cooking.

Q: Tell us about your background: Where and when did you learn to cook?
A: I started cooking with my mother. She was a wonderful cook and I liked to be around, watching, while she she was busy in the kitchen. When I moved to my own home, I still had much to learn and practice. I had many successes and failures.

Q: Which one is your favorite food?
A: Everything except frog legs, rhubarb and anchovies.

Q: Who does the cooking at home? Do you cook for one or two, or a family?
A: I cook for the family during the week, for my husband, three children and myself. My husband takes over the kitchen on a Saturday.

Q: Which dish is the one you cook best?
A: Probably, a traditional roast. I am better at cooking than baking. I like experimenting with cakes, but results have been disappointing.

Q: Which ones are your favorite recipes/dishes at home? Eating out?
A: At home, I like roast chicken and I prefer lemon-rosemary roasted chicken from all. Eating out, I like to order fish dishes as I am the only one to like fish at home and I we don't have it very often.

Q: Please, share with us a typical menu you serve when you entertain friends.
A: When we entertain friends, we share the cooking. When I am in charge, I usually go for a roast, my strong point. My husband usually prepares pasta. For dessert, we fill ready made pastry shells, the individual ones, with fruit and cream, or custard.
